Insurance premium tax and property transfer tax

On this page you find information in relation to paying insurance premium tax and property transfer tax. Both taxes are prescribed in the Legal Transactions (Taxation) Act (Wet op belastingen van rechtsverkeer). You pay insurance premium tax if you take out an insurance policy. You pay property transfer tax if you buy a house or some other form of real estate.

Insurance premium tax and property transfer tax

Insurance premium tax

When you take out an insurance policy, you pay insurance premium tax (assurantiebelasting) on the insurance premium.

Property transfer tax

You pay property transfer tax (overdrachtsbelasting) when you become the owner of (rights to) immovable property and shares in property entities.
