European subsidies
On this page you find an overview of European subsidies and facilities. Small and medium-sized enterprises, large enterprises, researchers and knowledge institutes working on research and technological innovation in an international context may be eligible for a European subsidy. There are subsidies for research, technological development and demonstration projects. The time frame of the projects is a number of years.
Programmes
The largest programme with the highest budget is the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), which will be succeeded by the Horizon 2020 programme in 2014. In addition, there are several other programmes in areas such as media and interregional cooperation.
Go to the programmes now:
- FP7 (for international cooperation between companies and scientific institutions)
- Health Programme (for health protection and promotion and knowledge distribution)
- LIFE+ (for the development and implementation of the European nature and environmental policy)
- Marco Polo II (subsidises international projects in the freight transport market)
- MEDIA (for the competitive capacity of the European audiovisual sector)
- INTERREG (for cooperation in the area of regional development within Europe)
- EU Gateway Programme (for trade missions for specific promising sectors to Japan and Korea)
You can also go to the individual subsidies from these programmes directly at the bottom of this page.
Conditions
You normally need a minimum of three partners from different EU Member States or associated countries in order to participate in an FP7 project. Such a collaborative venture is known as a consortium. You can only take part in a consortium if you have legal personality.
Assistance with the application
In the Netherlands, information and advice regarding most European subsidy schemes can be obtained from NL Agency. As the rules for taking part are rather complicated, we recommend that you contact NL Agency at an early stage.
Where media projects are concerned, you can contact MEDIA Desk. MEDIA Desk offers advice and guidance in respect of subsidy applications for schemes under the EU Media Programme. This programme supports the audiovisual sector in Europe, including the games sector.
Submitting proposals
You can submit project proposals whenever a call for proposals (or ‘call’) is open. A list of all calls for each theme can be found on the Participant Portal of the European Commission. For many European subsidies, the application has to be submitted to NL Agency.
