Quiet areas

A quiet area is an environmental protection area in which the natural sounds of the area (flora and fauna) predominate. General regulations to avoid or minimise noise pollution in quiet areas are laid down in Provincial Environmental Bye-laws (Provinciale Milieuverordeningen, PMV). In order to carry out activities in quiet areas, you need dispensation from the provincial authority, which lays down the rules and regulations governing the activities in question.

Please note: Other permits or dispensations may be required to carry out an activity in a quiet area, pursuant, for instance, to the Nature Conservation Act (Natuurbeschermingswet), the Environmental Management Act (Wet milieubeheer) or the General Municipal Bye-law (Algemene Plaatselijke Verordeningen, APV).

Online application procedure via Message Box

The application for dispensation to carry out activities in a quiet area can also be made online via Message Box.
