Permit and dispensation for provincial waterway structures

If you wish to build a structure in the Netherlands on, over or next to a provincial waterway, you require a permit or dispensation from the provincial authority. Examples of structures are bridges, jetties, bank facilities or harbour basins. Before you start to build, it is wise to first check who is the owner of the waterway.

Permit under the Canal Regulations

You may only dig, build, reroute, rebuild, modify, prevent the use of or dismantle canals and water control works if you have obtained a permit under the Canal Regulations (Kanalenreglement) from the provincial authority.

Online application procedure via Message Box

The application to the provinicial authority for a permit or dispensation can also be made online via Message Box.
