Listed building permit

Some buildings in the Netherlands have been designated as listed buildings at national, provincial or municipal level. If you want to alter or demolish such a building, you will need a permit. The permit you need is the All-in-one Permit for Physical Aspects (omgevingsvergunning). This permit was referred to as the ‘listed building permit’ (monumentenvergunning) until 1 October 2010.

How to apply

You apply for the permit from your local municipal authority. The municipal authority, the provincial authority or the National Service for Cultural Heritage (Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed) will look at the effect of your building plans on the architectural value of the building and determine on that basis whether or not to grant the permit. More information about how to apply for the permit can be found on the All-in-one Permit for Physical Aspects page.
