Identification and registration of animals

If you keep cattle, pigs, sheep or goats in the Netherlands, you must register as the keeper with the Regulations Department (Dienst Regelingen, DR) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation (EL&I). You will be assigned a unique business number (UBN) for the location where the animals are kept. You must report any import and export. You require a cattle passport for each bovine animal you export. In some cases you must maintain a business register.

Identification and registration system for poultry

The Poultry Flock Information System (Koppel Informatiesysteem Pluimvee, KIP) is the identification and registration system for the poultry sector. The Product Boards for Livestock, Meat and Eggs (Productschap Vee, Vlees en Eieren, PVE) administers the system. As a poultry farmer, you can enter data yourself here in relation to the registration of day-old chicks and transfers of poultry.

Cattle passport

If you export cattle from the Netherlands, these animals must have a valid cattle passport. You can apply for the passport online via the DR Help desk of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation.
