Excavation permit

If you want to perform excavation activities in the Netherlands, you will require an excavation permit. You can obtain this excavation permit from the National Service for Cultural Heritage (Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed). The term ‘excavation’ is understood to include archaeological investigations and exploratory boreholes.

The excavation permit will only be issued if you are a business involved in archaeology. The prevailing conditions are strict as regards professional competence, commercial operations, scientific accountability and personal integrity. Further requirements include an organisation plan and a certificate of good conduct.
