Approval and proof of identity for employees of private security firms and investigation agencies

If you operate a private security firm or detective agency in the Netherlands, you must satisfy the provisions of the Private Security Organisations and Detective Agencies Act (Wet particuliere beveiligingsorganisaties en recherchebureaus, WBPR). This law stipulates that your employees are required to carry special proof of identity.

Approval for employees

To be eligible for this proof of identity, your employees must first be granted consent to practice their profession. You can submit applications for this consent to the department of special laws (Bijzondere Wetten) of the police force in the police district where your firm or agency is located. The police will screen your employee in relation to reliability and professional competence. The chief of police grants his consent by completing and signing the required proof of identity.

Your organisation is required to keep a secure register of your employees’ identity documents.

Approval for managers

Approval from the Minister of Security and Justice is required for managers. You must submit for all managers a separate application to Justis Department of the Ministry of Security and Justice.

Online application procedure via Message Box

Private alarm centres and detective agencies can submit an application for approval also online via Message Box.
